OCCU earns top 25 ranking as a most admired company in Oregon

Eugene, Oregon – OCCU has been named a top 25 Most Admired Company for 2022 by the Portland Business Journal.

OCCU earned the ranking in the highly competitive Financial Services category for the first time. The category includes banks, credit unions, money management firms and lending firms either headquartered or with a large presence in Oregon and southwest Washington. The honor sets OCCU alongside other regional leaders in the credit union and bank space, such as OnPoint Community Credit Union and Bank of America.

The award is voted on by peer executives and recognizes outstanding businesses’ rich contributions to the region both economically and socially. More than 4,500 companies were nominated, with only a small fraction garnering recognition. OCCU also was recognized for its philanthropic efforts by the Portland Business Journal in October.

“OCCU is honored to be named as one of the most admired financial services companies in our region. Recognition by peers is the highest compliment; and this is ultimately a testament to the OCCU team demonstrating our values and delivering on our vision to enrich lives,” said Ron Neumann, OCCU president & CEO.

OCCU has grown to more than $3 billion in assets, serving 250,000 members, with 12 branches in Oregon and expanding auto and mortgage lending into the state of Washington. OCCU posted more than 80% asset growth while increasing loan portfolio balances 85% during the pandemic-laden years 2020-2022, and as an additional showcase of strength as a regional auto-lending leader recently became the first state-chartered U.S. credit union to issue an auto asset-backed security.

Commitment to the community is important to OCCU and in partnership with OCCU Foundation, the credit union gave back more than $1 million to the community in the form of grants and sponsorships to support local nonprofits and schools. In addition, team members are encouraged to support the community and are allowed up to 40 paid hours annually to volunteer.

OCCU offers flexible work schedules and supports a remote work environment for many positions. The credit union also has embraced an above-market starting wage of $18.55 hourly and provides enhanced benefits such as reimbursement for mind/body classes and stress management. In addition to a strong suite of medical and dental benefits, OCCU offers an up to 9% 401k match. Leadership hosts a quarterly town hall meetings and team building events such as holiday gatherings, baseball games and branch and department events occur regularly. Career development is encouraged through a tuition reimbursement program; professional development classes and job shadows; and small interest-free loans to support technology purchases or other needs.

The not-for-profit credit union also is embarking on expanding its service network with branches and associated services in four Willamette Valley, central and southern Oregon communities in 2023 and 2024.
